The walls are framed with 2x6 lumber. The framed walls are sheathed with a 1/2" plywood shear panel, then covered with a drain plane type vapor barrier and sided with 1x6 tongue and groove western red cedar siding. Prior to installing the vinyl windows a window wrap is installed with a drain pan to protect against moisture damage to the window frame..
During the yurt set up process the walls are screwed to each other and secured to the floor. A cable then wraps the tops of the walls securing them together into an integral unit.
The Roof System
The rafters are select structural grade Douglas fir lumber, with a variety of rafter depths available to match your insulation or structural needs.
The central compression ring is laminated of multiple layers of Douglas fir lumber doweled and glued together with waterproof glue and sealed with linseed oil. Rafters are pinned and bolted to the compression ring and bolted to the top plates of the walls. The rafter cable(s) hold the rafters firmly in tension with the compression ring.
The eaves, made of Inland Red Cedar are screwed to the rafters, and bird blocking (Douglas Fir) are installed between the rafters. The metal roof is 24 gauge galvanized steel and is anchored to the roof structure with roofing screws and bolts. The crown of the roof is finished with the skylight that is an operable thermal cast acrylic unit, mounted in an anodized aluminum frame.
Windows & Doors
The windows that come standard with our packages are vinyl clad insulated glass with Low-E glazing, an average U value of .33 and a solar heat gain coefficient (SHGC) of .35.
Windows are installed in the walls first by installing a window wrap system that incorporates a drain pan. This system is designed to prevent moisture damage to internal wall framing by keeping water out of the window opening and draining away any moisture that might get in with sloped drain pan at the bottom.
The doors that come standard with our packages are 3’0” x 6’8” the code acceptable size for an entry door. They are constructed of exterior grade Douglas fir. The glazing for door windows is similar that of our windows. These doors come with residential locking lever hardware, and can be drilled for a deadbolt upon request. You have a choice of either a half-length tempered glass window, full length tempered glass window or a six panel solid door as shown below.
